Product Description

This novel talks about the struggle for land in South Africa. It portrays how farmworkers were and are still treated by white farm owners. How they used“divide and rule”methods to manage the workers and exploit them. The farm was initially owned by Mr. Verwoerd (called uMavelevutha) when he had died it was inherited by his only son Sigonyela Verwoerd. Myezane was an old good and intelligent farm worker who worked for MrVerwoed until his son Sigonyela took over. Mr. Verwoerd treated his workers very well but his son mistreated the workers, he collaborated with other farmersand started mistreating his workers. He made sure that he divides the workers and used them against each to have full control over them.

He planned to kill Myezane collaborating with his friend Piet but used BingelelaDube who was a close friend of Myezane. On that night Myezane and hish household were attacked and the house was burned down. Myezane miraculously escaped death and disappeared for a while recuperating away from the farm.BingelelaDubewas given death penalty for the crimes and was taken to maximum prison to wait for his execution date.

The appearance of Myezane whom they all thought he died brought new evidence then the case had to re-open. This time around Sigonyela and his friend Piet were the suspects and accused number one. BingelelaDube who was in the maximum prison waiting for his day of execution became a state witness. The case dragged on with white prosecutor, judge and all white law and justice system trying to protect these two white farmers. On one hand white farmers ganged against the Myezane and his legal team while on the other hand black people and white human rights activists stood by Myezane. Eventually the truth prevailed and the two farmers were sentenced to life for their evil deeds and their farms were transferred to MyezaneNtshangase and BingelelaDube as payments of damages.
